MAKKAH: Seven Bangladeshis, living illegally in the Kingdom, were arrested by police for producing ice creams using expired ingredients and then selling it on under the name of a local company. Health and safety officials from Makkah Municipality noticed a group of illegal foreigners using an empty courtyard of a villa in the Aziziyya district to make ice cream. Police were informed and the villa was subsequently raided. Officials seized a large quantity of flavors and coloring that had passed their sell-by-date and were unsuitable for human consumption. According to municipal sources, the men were also operating in a very unhealthy environment. The ice cream was being made in large barrels and wooden sticks were being used to stir the contents. The ice cream was then poured into small plastic containers and then put into a large refrigerator. Once frozen, the ice cream was then labeled and sold on. The sources added that the place was unlicensed and unclean and that workers did not possess health certificates. Over 2 million containers of ice cream were also seized. The men told police that they make around 19,000 containers of ice cream every morning and a similar amount in the evening.
